SO... I have been away from the blog for a few weeks due to some wildness in our life but I'm trying to get back to writing as I have found that it is very therapeutic even if no one really reads it but me! :-)
The past few weeks of our life have been very crazy and hectic with shifts in life due to jobs and one's health! As most of our friends and family know operation find a better job has commenced in full force over the past few weeks.. We are very lucky in this economy to have jobs, however, blatantly taking advantage of your employees after you put them in a bad spot is totally unacceptable (at least in my eyes)!
With this being said the Dukan Diet has been a little laxed the past week and a half! However, I do have to say that at least I did not totally kill the diet by carb loading.. I added just a few carbs to the diet mainly at dinner and still managed to keep from gaining weight (actually lost a few pounds)! In trying to sooth hubby during this crazy time, how could I not fix something with potatoes or rice at dinner, as he says?! Well, that is going to be stopping slowly for him as Monday, starts another new day of sticking to the diet! Especially, since we found out that hubby has high blood pressure :-( although when I think about it this is not very surprising considering how wild life has been lately.
Thank goodness it is Friday though! We are leaving after work today to go spend the weekend with my parents in Jacksonville! Saturday, I know we will be at the beach (even if hubby is just fishing), then we are having dinner with our cousin and her husband which I know will be lots of fun!!! Sunday is the big day mom has a Big Dance Showcase in the afternoon with her Arthur Murray Dance Studio from Mandarin......I can't wait to see her dance, we have missed the last few dance showcases due to the time of the event....hoping I can drag my man on to the dance floor at least a couple of times!
I am looking forward to a great weekend!! Hopes that everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend!

July 22-25, 2011- Days 12-15 of the Dukan Diet
So is it just me or do the weekends seem like they are getting shorter and shorter?! Talk about the weekend flying by in the blink of an eye!
I am finally starting to get the hang of this diet finally.... hubby came and took me out to lunch on Friday and I am learning it is easier than I thought to find something to eat at restaurants that is acceptable with the Dukan Diet! Yay! The weekend was again, another challenge that I overcame, I am so proud of myself. Hubby and his friend smoked some awesome ribs on Saturday (yes, I was able to have them at they just used hubby's homemade Dry Rub) that I was able to enjoy as the ribs were very lean! I made them new potatoes and steamed asparagus for myself. Sunday, was the toughest day as we went a birthday party for a 5 year old... so yes as you can imagine challenges as every table! lol
I was so good, I munched on raw veggies along with ONLY eating the hamburgers without the bun and no cheese (so sad). Plus, there was the box of assorted chips sitting on the table, but I was strong enough to say NO! However, I almost failed at cake time, I mean who, who can turn away a slice of cake from Publix?! Me!!! By the time we left I was on my 4th big bottle of water, which had to be what kept me filling full. I was very proud of myself as I thought for sure that I would cave at the cake honestly!!!
So tonight we are having a ginger-terryaki style Tuna dish with assorted veggies that hubby will get to enjoy with whole grain rice! I haven't made this dish in a while so it will be interesting to see if I can make it right LOL
Friday night was fun as we went out bowling with a friend, which we haven't done in years and of course I lost.... However, at least I broke 100 in 2 out of the 3 games and bowled a 205 in one game! I've learned beer does make you a better bowler, haha!
Saturday, was an up early morning as we had to run errands, get the cars serviced...but at least most of all of the errands were over by noon and then we were able to just relax! As we relaxed and flipped on the tv (which of course for my hubby went to the cartoon networks) and the original version of Thundercats was on! I couldn't believe it!! Snarf, Lino along with the whole gang..lol I felt so old! I've realized it is hilarious to sit and watch old shows from when you were little as they seem so cheesy lol but they did at least get out a good message to kids.
Sunday, was another early morning thanks to Bailey who just wouldn't let mommy and daddy sleep past 7:15! We got ready to head out to the birthday party which was an interesting drive into Orlando... We are almost out of Zellwood when out of the "woods" comes this guy with his shirt draped over his shoulder, a crazy long beard and long hair that looks completely matted.. my first thought was "Pay attention as I'm going to hear about a murder on the news tonight" then I look over to the railroad tracks leading out of the woods, here comes this woman walking down the tracks carrying her shoes, an over sized shirt on that says I love something and her hair all crazy and falling out of a pony tail!! Hubby looks at me and does like a full body shiver then says "Oh that's not even right." I just shook my head and focused on driving lol
We make it to the birthday party of which we had an awesome time! Although, I think the adults loved the inflatable water slide as much as the kids (maybe even a little more)! The pool and the water slide were perfect for a hot Florida summer day! Poor hubby needed some Aleeve and a nice hot shower after a couple times down the water slide and encountering the rocks at the bottom of the slide in the little shallow pool part (or so I'm told).... So we had a nice quiet evening of just relaxing last night which was nice after a fun day!

July 19-21, 2001-Days 9-11 of the Dukan Diet
The past few days..... have been very crazy busy! I have still been keeping up with the diet although alternating between pure protein days and days with proteins and veggies (yes, and yogurt + oat bran pancake) is proving challenging! Plus also trying to cook for hubby so that he doesn't feel ignored :-) We have been walking or riding the bikes at night, the past few have actually been decent but now it is still 90 degrees out at 10pm, yuck!
Bailey has been keeping us on our toes as she decided to start keeping a stash of stuff underneath our bed! And when I mean stash it is not just one little things we are talking about rocks, leaves, itty bitty tree limbs, anything the little con artist can get her little paws on. We found one stash of leaves hidden between some drawers that we temporarily had slid under our bed and cleaned it out thinking we had gotten rid of everything....
We were the fools!! All of sudden one night Bailey comes out with leaves into the family room and starts chomping away so we grabbed them from her, well she then proceeds to parade around 2 more times with more leaves after coming out of the bedroom. So hubby is chasing after her and follows her under the bed and the little pack rat has been putting stuff INSIDE the drawers under the bed!!! So least to say the drawer stash has been cleaned out permanently lol Sometimes I worry about that dog but at least she provides entertainment!!! :-)

July 15-18, 2011- Days 5-8 of the Dukan Diet
Ok, I have missed a couple of days and am playing catch up here! So here we go...
Day 5
Friday on the diet was very good although a test in preparing me for our weekend trip! Despite my sweet hubby taking me out to Chili's for dinner where there are soo many temptations (queso being a big weakness) I was a very good person and just ordered the Margarita Grilled Chicken plain for dinner and a Diet Coke. After such a long week and day a beer was calling my name badly, but I said no! I did my elliptical in the morning and when we got home from dinner I did my pilates workout as it was raining outside :-(
Friday, was a crazy day! Especially at the end of the day and my drive home in the torrential rains! The rains even with zero visibility were not so bad, the wind was really strong but the Rogue handled it well I was pleasantly surprised. The challenging part of the drive home started when I turned off of US 441 on to Old 441 going into downtown Mount Dora.... I've seen a little bit of street flooding in downtown but NOTHING like we had on Friday night!!!! I was basically either driving in the middle of the road or into the oncoming lane of traffic to keep my car from being submerged.... The most frustrating part for me was that the two cars ahead of me kept stopping in the middle of 2 foot high water or going 5 mph through it. Now yes, I know you shouldn't be speeding through the water covering the road, however, if you don't maintain a decent speed the water will choke the engine, UGH!!!! After 20 minutes I finally made it home, wohoo! LOL
Day 6
Saturday, was definitely full of challenges as we went to Tampa for the weekend and met hubby's family at Bern's Steakhouse for dinner. The day started out well doing the morning exercises and eating a good healthy breakfast! We had an amazing dinner! I was so proud of myself in turning away almost all of the temptations set before me at dinner... my only splurge was I ate some of the salad and steamed veggies that were served with dinner (not the bread, french onion soup, baked potato). I did have a sugarless key lime pie that was not bad considering it didn't have the sugar. After dinner, I did have one little slip we went for drinks to my favorite pub Four Green Fields from when I lived in Tampa and I had one Harp (it was so worth it). Considering all of the hurdles set before me I thought it wasn't too bad!
We are so lucky to have found a decent little hotel out on Rocky Point for when we stay in Tampa that is clean and affordable, plus we can take Bailey with us! Bailey, of course loves this as she gets to get in the water and look "so cute" garnering lots of attention from other people LOL We went and drove around Hyde Park and stopped in at the 3000 Import Beer Store (yes, of course my hubby purchased some import beer) that is right by where I use to live. A very nice relaxing afternoon.
Day 7
Sunday, was a nice easy day! Woke up and watched the sunrise over Tampa Bay with Bailey. Hubby went and got us coffee at Starbucks and found me some food I could eat for breakfast with my diet :-) Then we went for a little bike ride around Rocky Point scouting out fishing spots of course! Then hubby went fishing off the dock at the hotel and got a few bites but didn't catch anything. However, we did see a lot of baby sting rays by the dock!
We checked out and headed home which was a nice uneventful drive although I ended up driving the truck back! We got home in time to watch the Women's World Cup which was a great game....I'm sad the USA didn't win but Japan just wanted the win more than we did plus I think it is very fitting that they won as it will be a very uplifting moment for Japan!!! Poor Bailey was trying to chill on the couch during the game but we kept yelling so much she retreated to our bed for solace hehe! I worked out last night and we went for a bike ride again before making dinner!
Officially in 1 week I lost 5.5 pounds! I was really surprised I wasn't sure if I had lost any weight, but after finding something to where in the closet for dinner Saturday night I found things were fitting better than they had! :-)
Day 8
Today, I woke up late so I will have to hit both the elliptical and my pilates work out when I get home tonight! Although, I did walk at lunch around the office complex which wasn't too bad thankfully due to all the cloudiness!
Dinner tonight should be better than last week as I can finally start to incorporate some vegetables into my meals (I know a certain someone will be excited about that lol), wohoo! I still have been eating yogurt and drinking water like crazy!! But hey at least it helps keep me feeling full and the munchies away! :-)

July 14, 2011- Day 4 of the Dukan Diet
So....
Day 3 of the diet finished in the positive again! I got home last night late (more about that later) so my schedule was thrown a little off that I had in my head for a workout. However, I still stuck to the plan I had doing ab, arms, legs and butt pilates work out even if it was later than I anticipated. One thing I did learn though is that when I'm using the Pilates exercise balls, Bailey thinks that it is "time to play with my ball too"!! Poor Bailey, I ended up having to put her in her crate for a little while because she wouldn't leave me alone. I do have to say I am very surprised that I am not more sore than I am from the pilates...of course there still is tomorrow lol!
Day 4
Today, I woke up early again to working out on the elliptical first thing, which I think is really giving me that burst of energy during the day and I really am enjoying it! I'm beginning to understand that this is really about changing your lifestyle completely. Hopefully, tonight it won't rain and we will be able to take a bike ride! Taking a bike ride at night is a great way to relax and unwind after a long day, especially riding along the lake. Today, I was craving something sugary so for the first time all week I got a Diet Coke (which yes, is allowed on the diet) and it worked in solving my craving. Yes, I am still drinking water like crazy!!
I digress to yesterday's crazy drive home from work..... you know it's going to be a long drive home from work when you're pretty much blocked in by people who obviously did not take driver's ed for parallel parking. And yes, the craziness just snow balls from there, but the icing on the cake is when you're getting ready to turn onto the main highway to get home and the traffic is sitting at a STAND STILL, yes north of Apopka in the middle of nowhere traffic is nuts!! I make the wrong turn and get even more tangled up in traffic only to have the residents of the seedy side of town pointing to a side road gesturing for me to take this road to get out of traffic.
At first I hesitate as I think "I have no clue where this road goes or this area at all" then I get reassurance (or blind courage) in that 4 cars just go by me and automatically make this right turn to nowhere...so I decide it has to be better than sitting for heaven knows how long in traffic. Well, this road led to nowhere without a doubt but in following my fellow commuters I made my way around the crazy accident that had the highway closed down. Later, we found out that a SUV ran into the rear of a bus that was stopped at a bus stop. Honestly, this does not surprise me as the city bus' do not have very bright flashers showing they are stopped and I have watched several cars swerve at the last minute to avoid the stopped bus'. One would think that there would either be a pull off of the busy highway for the bus stop or at the least the bus would have more visible flashers..... but then again who knows whether the driver was even paying attention.
Hubby and I both got home from work late because of that but bless his heart he worked outside and got all of the yard work done for the week! Yay!!! We will have an easy upcoming weekend! :-) And, Bailey finally decided that the wool blanket from Yellowstone is not worth her attention anymore LOL....

July 13, 2011-Day 3 of The Dukan Diet
Here we go...
Day 2 finished without any other bad cravings for the rest of the night which was quite surprising and welcome! Hubby and I were able to get a nice bike ride in before the thunder started last night....of course after we rushed home, there was no rain lol But hey, that was good because we were able to cook dinner out on the grill. The Grilled Chicken with Mustard Sauce was a very tasty, and simple recipe that I will definitely use again! Even hubby liked the recipe!
Yesterday, we finally received the boxes that we had shipped home from Yellowstone (and yes, we did drop off all of the loot on Friday, July 1, 2011), you have to love UPS! Well, the majority of everything made it home in tact except for a few little things but most importantly, the Moose that we had to have.....(hubby's must have to go along with the bison statue that we now have) had an antler that cracked! To say the least hubby was very disappointed....I just hope we can purchase another one and have it shipped to us!
Here's the part that makes me chuckle, the shot glass, wine glasses, pilsners and beer pints all made the trip successfully without a scratch on them!! Tell me how that happens?! Especially when the poor Moose was wrapped in better packaging then these glasses! So we pull out the wool Yellowstone Special Anniversary Blanket that we purchased at Lake and who does it spook?! Yes, that would be my dog.... it took us almost 20 minutes before we realized that Bailey was barking frantically at the silly blanket! I even put it in the spare bedroom and she was still barking, I had to shut the door before Bails would quit barking LOL
Day 3
Day 3 started out much better than the past few mornings of getting up early, my body must finally be getting used to it! I have found that working out and watching music videos is actually more encouraging/energizing versus just watching the news while working out but then again, lately what if anything good is on the news?! Today I have much more energy and pizazz (I guess you could say) than I feel I have had in the past two days since starting the diet. I have still been good and am only drinking water or skim milk (yes, yesterday was definitely a major test), which has not been quite as tough as I thought it would be. At least tonight for dinner is just Grilled Pork Chops, how can you mess that up?! :-)
And thank you to everyone for your support on this new venture of mine I really did not expect it, it means a lot!

July 12, 2011-Day 2 of the Dukan Diet
So, Day 1 of the Dukan Diet passed without any major cravings or missing of the carbs (yes, I'm as shocked as you are)!! Last night, I got home and we went for a walk before it clouded up and looked like it was going to rain (there went the idea of grilling chicken for dinner lol). I finally made the required, "Oat Bran Galette", I know it sounds so yummy doesn't it?!
I had been dreading making this Oat Bran Galette or basically an Oat Bran Pancake after reading many different comments on how tough it was to get the Oat Bran to the right consistency and to actually have some flavor to it. However, knock on wood, the first time out I made quite a yummy "Herb Flavored" Oat Bran Pancake, I even got props from hubby who tried it (of course under duress)!
The only wild thing last night was Bailey trying to chase the Bull Frogs by the front door when I took her out and of course was I paying attention to the frogs.....NO, so there goes Bailey full tilt all 28 pounds of her as she yanks the leash right out of my hand! I do give her credit though as soon as she was tired chasing frogs and running around she picked her leash up in her mouth and trotted right over to me LOL! You gotta love it!
Day 2
I'm proud of myself as I got up early again this morning and did 30 minutes on the elliptical and then walked around my office complex for 20 minutes today at lunch. Yes, I did this in the middle of the day on blacktop, maybe I have lost my mind?! It did bring back memories of playing volleyball in junior high here in Orlando during August and September! Oh how I miss those days in the 90+ degree heat burning through the soles of your tennis shoes during practice, NOT!!! :-)
I have been very good all day, except for this afternoon I was craving something sweet so I quick ran to Starbucks and got a small skinny vanilla latte....thank god for being able to have skim milk! Thank you Starbucks for squelching my craving.... I feel much better now and not like I am depriving myself of anything. Hopefully, everything will continue to be smooth sailing tonight and we will get to try the chicken recipe! :-)

July 11, 2011-Day 1 of the Dukan Diet
For those of you that are reading this blog, thank you. As this is my first try at blogging so it should be interesting to say the least!
Day 1 of the Dukan Diet
This past weekend was very busy for me in getting prepped for starting this new diet called the Dukan Diet (www.dukandiet.com), the what you say?! I know it definitely has a weird name and I probably never would have heard about it if I had not watched sooo much coverage (too much as my husband says) of the Royal Wedding back in April!
Apparently, this Dukan Diet is quite popular in Europe and is a mainly protein based diet that reduces the amount of carbs that you have daily but does not completely cut them out except for at the beginning..... this will be a major test for me at the beginning :-( So yes, no carbs means no wine until the very last phase of the diet, UGH!
However, Day 1 is going well so far and not feeling hungry or having any cravings.. I got up early worked out on the Elliptical Machine for 30 minutes and hope to go biking (we got new bikes this weekend) for at least 30 minutes after work (if it doesn't rain)! Tonight for dinner it's Grilled Chicken with Tarragon and Lemon, I know that sounds real filling doesn't it?! The one thing that I will be eating a lot of it seems is yogurt! Who knows, maybe I'll beat Michael Westin out in who can eat most yogurt?! LOL...
But seriously, hopefully with keeping this blog up it will help give me that motivation to work even harder at the diet and getting into an even healthier lifestyle! So, please keep your fingers crossed for me :-)
Over the Weekend
So back to the bicycles.... we bought these on Saturday afternoon and thought that besides us getting more exercise, we could also get Bailey out running more with us. Yeah, that grand thought went up in a puff of smoke LOL Bailey is scared to death of the bicycles, so scared that she won't even go out in the garage period! I can only imagine what her little mind must think of those Big, Mean ole' bicycles!! We are hoping that the more she sees them the less scared Bailey will be of them. Any ideas?!
So after, the whole scary bicycle introduction to Bailey we come back in the house for a few minutes. As I am coming out of the bedroom along with trying to keep Bailey from grabbing the dryer sheets (aka crack sheets as we call them), I start to walk into the kitchen to thrown them away, when my husband yells STOP! and has the horrible look on his face. He says don't come in here there is a huge bug on the wall.....so I of course run in the opposite direction as I detest bugs. So I'm asking him what is it, no answer...what is it?! Finally, my hubby yells "I don't know its freaking huge and mutant"...I"m sitting there like ya right...I barely turn the corner and this huge, disgusting, freaky bug is on the wall of my kitchen! I'm yelling at hubby to kill it as I run out the door of the house grabbing Bailey on the way! Finally, about 5 minutes later hubby walks out the front door and says, "I won its dead!" The worst part is we still don't know what kind of bug it was, eeeek!!! But one thing I know for sure, the pest control guy is coming to my house first thing this week!! So that was part of my wild weekend!
